CO2 regulations create incentive for greener logistics

CO2 REGULATIONS CREATE INCENTIVE FOR GREENER LOGISTICS

Air pollution in major cities has become a serious health and environmental threat. To reduce the emission of CO2, political initiatives are enforced globally and locally, which will impact the transport industry’s interest in green alternatives to diesel.

To fight CO2 emission and improving air quality, more and more urban access regulations are introduced by the European Union and local authorities. These regulated zones are inaccessible for vehicles that do not meet the stated emission requirements. Latest initiative is in Germany, where Hamburg banned all diesel vehicles on selected roads. It is predicted that more cities will follow with similar strict restrictions.

These regulations force the transport industry to reflect on their climate footprints in order to stay competitive and operational in urban areas. Zero-emission trucks can solve the challenge partly and the regulations will therefore increase the transport companies’ motivation for investing in these environmental-friendly solution in the future. Investing in green alternatives becomes not only a responsible choice, but also a smart and long-term investment.
