PNO collaboration with WeForest

PNO collaboration with WeForest

Since 2018, PNO actively contributes to forest restoration thanks to our partnership with WeForest.

ABOUT WEFOREST
WeForest is an NGO dedicated to forests’ restoration in order to neutralize the increasing global emissions. This organisation applies a scientific approach to Forest Landscape Restoration and collaborates with universities and research institutes to build a strong reforestation strategy through applied research and validated methodologies.
WeForest works together with companies such as Nike, Barclays, Samsonite, and Europcar.

HOW IT STARTED
PNO collaborated with WeForest when the Norwegian branch donated 1000 trees as a customer Christmas gift. In addition, PNO Group donated 11 trees to each employee as Christmas gifts through the Global Climate Institute, which invests in projects through WeForest to secure verification and certification of calculation methods.

FLIGHTS CARBON OFFSETTING
To decrease PNO’s environmental impact related to transport, all business flights that cannot be avoided are currently carbon offsetted through tree planting. The offset is done twice a year, based on flights emissions calculations done through the Carbon Emission Calculator developed by ICAO and recommended by WeForest.
So far, we have calculated PNO’s flight activity of 2019’s first 5 months to a total emission of 15377 kg of CO2. In order to offset these flights emissions within the next 10 years, we will continue supporting the Zambia project by planting 254 new trees.

PNO NORWAY’S ”1 TRAILER=1 TREE” INITIATIVE
PNO Norway just launched the initiative “ 1 trailer = 1 tree”. Following this concept, PNO NO will plant a tree for every trailer in its fleet, and will continue to do so every year.

We came up with the idea in collaboration with WeForest as a way to have continuity in our donations. It’s simple, doable and a good way to act against climate change. As a company, it’s important to do as much as we possibly can to reduce our overall footprint and hopefully this initiative will also bring some inspirational value” – Stian Åsvang Raupp, Rental & Sales, PNO Norway.

To increase our transparency and keep track of our growing PNO forest, we decided to make our tree-data available through an open PNO profile on WeForest website.
