PNO Sweden’s green journey

PNO Sweden’s green journey

Over the last months, PNO’s Swedish team reached several important milestones in its ongoing journey towards improving its environmental and social impact. An inspiring example of best sustainable practices of which PNO as a whole is proud of.

PNO SE commitment towards sustainability starts from the office. The Swedish teams has succeeded in implementing several initiatives, among the most relevant ones: switching the entire light installation to LED bulbs and moving to a green energy supplier, implementing a waste sorting system, fully eliminating the consumption of bottled water through the use of a water dispenser, buying ECO in all aspects when possible as well as relying on local suppliers for office materials and food, and limiting printing. Concerning this last point, the use of e-mail invoices instead of sending them via post resulted in estimated savings of 20 kg of paper (5831 invoices), corresponding to 16,000 kg of CO2.

At the beginning of this month, PNO SE office and the two workshops, respectively in Helsinborg and Jönköping, have installed solar panels on their offices’ roofs thus shifting to clean energy.
PNO is also on the waiting list for buying brand new electric terminal tractors, which are still in development and will be available in 2020. In the meantime the tractors in Helsinborg and Jönköping have been recently substituted by more modern, environmental friendly ones.

Concerning the local initiatives, PNO office and workshop in Helsingborg have together established the project “Operation Green Friday” where approximately 25 PNO employees collects trash in the local area to improve the conditions for wildlife and local citizens. The first event was held in November 2018. To scale the project, PNO SE will team up with the local initiative “I Love HBG”. This will anchor the trash collecting activity as a fixed part of the local community calendar. In addition, PNO SE is supporting Tikspac, an initiative whereby stations for the free distribution of biodegradable dog waste bags are placed at selected locations to make footpaths, parks, recreation grounds and other public areas cleaner.

Last but not least, the workshop in Jönköping will contribute with a sorting station for the local municipality cleaning day in May. The event is held annually, but all trash has until now been disposed into the same container. PNO SE wish to improve this by establishing a sorting station, where they help organize the trash into the correct categories.

”We have recently put special effort in taking real action to improve our positive environmental and social impact. It’s an issue that needs to be tackled proactively and it’s relevant part of PNO’s  business model. Our team is proud of the results achieved so far and, although the sustainability journey is still long, we’re extremely motivated to move further”
Tomas Levai, Country Manager – PNO SE
