BENEFITS OF LINK TRAILERS
Among the different types of semi-trailer offered in the market, Link trailers are the most common choice for transportation of a high volume of goods. They are traditional trailers – e.g. curtain, box, reefer, container chassis – equipped with a specific link at the back that enables to couple it with an extra trailer. As a result, the truck tractor can simultaneously carry a link trailer connected to an additional semi-trailer.
There are several benefits resulting from the combination of multiple trailer-modules.
- HIGHER LOAD CAPACITY
Long combination vehicles can transport more goods per trip/km. - REDUCED EMISSIONS
Less total fuel consumption. - FINANCIAL GAINS
Lower costs per ton/km. - REDUCED CONGESTIONS
Fewer trucks for the same goods. Same braking capacities, as each axle braking it’s own load. - SUPPORT EFFICIENT LOGISTICS
From a EU regulatory perspective, in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and some roads in Norway, trucks with trailers are allowed to be 25.25 m long. In Finland 34.5 meters is allowed since January 2019, but the longest vehicles are 31.5 metres long because of cornering regulations.
