Our Journey To Net Zero by 2030
Our journey to Net Zero by 2030
Back in 2020, we committed to becoming Net Zero by 2030. We know it’s a big commitment because we want to become emissions-free in our operations and throughout our entire value chain.
Bet you’ve heard that one before, right? Wondering what it means and how are we going to get there? We do too. So we’ve made a bit of a plan following some great advice from the SME Climate Hub. It looks something like this:
- Reducing our emissions
(aka cleaning up our backyard, for example, by switching to renewable energy) - Reducing our value chain emissions
(aka working with our suppliers and vendors to buy better materials and find ways to lower emissions) - Making climate a core part of our strategy
(aka CO2 emissions are a part of making decisions) - Accelerating climate action in society
(aka partnering with environmental and social organisations that create systemic change)
The thing is: A plan is great, but it will take many years to truly get there and transform our industry to become sustainable. We know that we have to focus on taking action, so we’ve invested in our climate to compensate for the things we can’t change today while we continue to work for change in the future. We believe every little action counts and is better than doing nothing – it’s not about being perfect.
We have, for example, committed to a portfolio of permanent carbon removal projects for our emissions from 2019 to 2021. We did this together with a third-party expert, Normative. They helped us decide what to invest in for our removal projects based on guidelines put together by Oxford Offsetting Principles which outline how offsetting should be approached to achieve Net Zero.
Normative pointed us to Patch, which offers a broad portfolio of high-quality carbon offset projects with international reach. If you are curious to know more about which projects we’ve selected, you can check it out here.
