PNO officially becomes a B Corporation

On the 13th September 2019, PNO was officially awarded our B Corp certification.

This makes us the region’s only B Corp in the rental business, and one of only 3,023 B Corps worldwide.

It’s a proud moment for PNO, and a clear step toward fulfilling our purpose – to lead the transition to sustainable freight via People, Planet and Profit.

But as we move forward, you may be wondering what exactly a B Corp is, and why does it matter?

B Corp – A Framework for Good

Becoming a B Corporation is a certification that’s only awarded to companies who meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

In essence, B Corp provides a framework for being a good company with a social conscience.

For PNO, it was this framework that was most appealing.

As a purpose-led company, we’re already committed to doing what’s best for the community, society and our employees, but B Corp certification offered a more detailed framework to help us step up our efforts and accelerate our progress toward our goal.

It did, however, require significant effort from the team.

The process wasn’t easy, and it required us to make some changes to our policies and intentions to meet the standards. Particularly challenging, for example, how we should best measure and implement changes, which in some cases were out of our hands.

But the PNO team, from the CEO and to the employees, is passionate and committed to the cause. And that alignment made it that much easier.

In many ways, this certification is an acknowledgement of who we already are at our core, and a reflection of our values and purpose. B Corp certification has given us a framework to better implement concrete actions, and help us fulfil our purpose.

Toward a Sustainable Future

The future we see is sustainable, and we want to lead that change. We believe it’s not enough to just maintain, we want to be the drivers of change.

Becoming a B Corp is an important step of PNO’s journey, and we hope it will inspire and motivate others to do contribute positively across all the four B Corp pillars (environment, local community, employees and governance)

As time goes on, more and more customers and employees will want to work with companies that have a measurable, sustainable profile – companies that do more than just talk about sustainability, but companies that take action.

And so although becoming a B Corp is a great accomplishment for us, it’s just the beginning.

Now it’s time to keep improving and raising the bar.

We’re just getting started.
