Supporting the Planet with our Health Initiatives
How about boosting your health while helping the planet?
That sounds like a win-win to us, so at PNO, we combine our people and planet initiatives by ensuring that everyone at PNO can focus on mental and physical health; while doing so, employees are supporting the planet.
The results are in, and the team achieved 18.840 trees in 2022.
PNO has supported WeForest in restoring forests and growing trees in Zambia since 2018. And today, PNO is restoring 39.14 ha by growing an estimated 47,073 trees.
We’re supporting the growth of trees through different initiatives:
In 2022, we also introduced an add-on to support trees when focusing on mental health initiatives such as meditation with the Headspace app, digital detoxes, time spent in nature and creative activities. This initiative ran from May to August.
Our Health Initiative, “More than Kilometres”, is an ongoing initiative throughout the year. With this, we support trees for the kilometres we’ve been running, walking, and cycling. From January 2023, minutes meditated will be a permanent part of our monthly calculation.
- 2 km of walking supports a tree
- 5 km of cycling supports a tree
- 1 km of running supports a tree
- Every 10 minutes, you meditate a tree is supported.
PNO has also supported trees for each completed eNPS survey from our employees and for each new person we hire to the team. Want to know more about our health initiatives? Check out this link.
Until the end of 2022, we’ve been supporting projects through WeForest, primarily based in the Copperbelt Province in Zambia. The projects are helping the local community by engaging smallholder farmers in reversing deforestation.
The forests in that region need assisted natural regeneration. The typical local miombo forest has suffered from mining and charcoal production, so WeForest trains farmers to restore their small farms so the forests and land can get healthy and grow again.
